Ah, you mean juvenile-memory's comment about the downrating? I'd say the same thing, honestly. It'd happen on dA with far greater frequency if the tools were available for people to do so.
Well, either way, I'd say it's for the better. What you do is very obvious - the only thing stopping a catastrophe is that you're using base items that aren't easily accessible or recognizable. dA condones things like that, but sheezy generally doesn't.
But you've never specified, either. You know as well as I that people who are unfamiliar with these things would misclassify them mentally, and that's where the problem lies - if you clearly state what everything is, or make your own category within your gallery, it should clear up any misconceptions.
well no, I didn't think that people would misclassify them. I consider them paintings as I spend many hours painting them and make them my own. Not all of them are painted manipulations. I link the models used. If I haven't then invariably I've accidentally forgotten. I have a busy life, looking after my daughter and writing, also I have diagnosed schizophrenia and have regular therapy, so I don't often get time to work on pieces like these.
In response to the other comment, I'm not sure how I've misused the mixed media classification?
This has never been brought to my attention before, I wasn't aware it was a big problem. I do have a category for them which I have labelled paintings due to the amount of work done on them, and that some of them do not have any photo base.
It doesn't matter how many hours you spend painting over a photo. If you're editing something that was originally a photo, you are still manipulating it, whole or in part. The reason behind this is that you are not calculating or executing the render purely from your own skill - you are taking an existing picture and modifying it.
I was linked your work some months ago and asked if it was a manip. I of course, bluntly said yes. I've heard about you from time to time since, but back then, as always, I've been very preoccupied. It was just linked to me again today, at a point which I had a few free moments. I figured you might pick up on my vague hints, but it seems you either didn't, or did, and are now deleting your entire gallery under the guise of something minor like downrating.
>some of them do not have any photo base. I've seen your sketches.
well, I feel bad, I didn't realise it was an issue. I often have difficulty making connections. The deletion was pure coincidence, although I don't know what point there is saying that, as I'm sure you're convinced otherwise.
and i'm talking about http://circadiantwilight.deviantart.com/art/size-up-112546817 for example.
